Lichuan's air quality reflects the Hubei western Wushui River headwaters' highland position at 1,082 metres surrounded by the Qingjiang and Wuling Mountain ranges, with vehicle traffic and the agricultural, tourism, and light manufacturing corridor contributing local sources. The surrounding mountain enclosure creates winter inversions, while the relatively low industrial intensity generally maintains moderate Hubei western highland readings throughout most of the year.
