Liaoyuan's air quality reflects the flat Jilin Province's Liaoyuan River valley coal mining position, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the coal mining legacy, manufacturing, and residential heating corridor contributing elevated coal dust PM10. Winter residential coal heating compounds mining background under frequent anticyclonic inversions, while the flat terrain allows reasonable summer dispersal and Liaoyuan generally maintains moderate to elevated Jilin Province coal corridor city readings throughout the winter months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Liaoyuan right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Liaoyuan is fair. O3 is the main pollutant at 29.6/100. Pollution peaks around 4:00 AM (NO2: 45.9/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Liaoyuan?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Liaoyuan will be worse than today, with AQI forecast at poor at 65.9/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 65.9/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Liaoyuan?
Air quality in Liaoyuan tends to be worse when traffic on the surrounding roads, mining and quarrying operations, as well as light manufacturing build up and the surrounding valley traps air close to the ground. Topographic enclosure in the valley lets pollution accumulate rather than clear out. Dust carried on these winds adds substantially to particulate levels.
Are air quality levels in Liaoyuan based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
