Liaoyang's air quality reflects the Liaoning central Taizihe River valley position adjacent to Anshan, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the petrochemical, steel, and textile corridor contributing elevated industrial emissions. The river valley provides limited ventilation, while winter residential coal heating compounds industrial emissions and the proximity to Anshan's steel complex creates a shared regional industrial background maintaining moderate to elevated Liaoning industrial corridor readings throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Liaoyang right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Liaoyang is fair. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 37.9/100. Pollution peaks around 7:00 AM (PM1: 37.9/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Liaoyang?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Liaoyang will be worse than today, with AQI forecast at poor at 63.0/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 63.0/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Liaoyang?

In Liaoyang, traffic on the surrounding roads, petrochemical and refining operations, together with manufacturing activity are the main local sources, with conditions worsening when dry, windy weather picks up. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape. Fuel burned for winter heating adds an extra layer of particulates on top of other sources.

Are air quality levels in Liaoyang based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
