Leshan's air quality reflects the Sichuan Basin's Dadu River and Min River confluence adjacent to the famous Giant Buddha site, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the tourism, chemical, and manufacturing corridor contributing local sources. The Sichuan Basin's topographic enclosure creates concentration under winter inversions, while the Giant Buddha sacred site's tourism concentration creates seasonal vehicle peaks and Leshan generally maintains moderate Sichuan Basin provincial readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Leshan right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Leshan is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 75.0/100. Pollution peaks around 5:00 PM (O3: 75.0/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Leshan?

Leshan usually sees its poorest air quality when traffic emissions, petrochemical and refining operations, together with manufacturing and food processing coincide with periods when the surrounding valley traps air close to the ground. The surrounding valley terrain holds pollutants near the surface rather than letting them disperse. This is most pronounced in winter, when inversions are more frequent.

Are air quality levels in Leshan based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
