Kaiyuan in China reflects the Liaoning Province's flat Liao River plain position, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and manufacturing and agricultural processing contributing local sources. Winter residential coal heating compounds emissions under frequent anticyclonic inversions, while the flat terrain allows reasonable summer dispersal and Kaiyuan generally maintains moderate to elevated Liaoning Province agricultural industrial corridor readings throughout the winter months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Kaiyuan right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Kaiyuan is very poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 100/100. Pollution peaks around 2:00 PM (O3: 100/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Kaiyuan?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Kaiyuan will be better than today, with AQI forecast at poor at 70.2/100. Pollution peaks around 5:00 PM (O3: 70.2/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Kaiyuan?
Kaiyuan usually sees its poorest air quality when road traffic, manufacturing activity, and agricultural activity coincide with periods when dry spells bring strong winds. Dust carried on these winds adds substantially to particulate levels. Coal and wood used for winter heating add substantially to particulate levels.
Are air quality levels in Kaiyuan based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
