Jiujiang's air quality reflects the Jiangxi Yangtze River lakeside position at the Poyang Lake outlet, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the petrochemical, copper, and manufacturing corridor contributing elevated industrial PM2.5. The Poyang Lake provides limited natural ventilation, while winter anticyclonic inversions concentrate industrial and heating emissions and Jiujiang generally maintains moderate to elevated Jiangxi northern Yangtze corridor readings throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Jiujiang right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Jiujiang is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 65.9/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 AM (NO2: 65.9/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Jiujiang?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Jiujiang will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at poor at 63.8/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 AM (NO2: 63.8/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Jiujiang?
In Jiujiang, traffic on the surrounding roads, heavy industrial and chemical processing, together with light manufacturing are the main local sources, with conditions worsening when dry spells bring strong winds. Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher. Fuel burned for winter heating adds an extra layer of particulates on top of other sources.
Are air quality levels in Jiujiang based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
