Jincheng's air quality reflects the Shanxi southeastern Qin River valley's enclosed position at the Taihang Mountain base, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the coal mining and coking corridor generating elevated industrial PM2.5. The surrounding Taihang ridgelines create topographic enclosure, while winter coal heating under valley inversions and the coal mining industrial legacy maintain Jincheng among Shanxi's more distinctively coal-defined smaller metropolitan environments throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Jincheng right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Jincheng is very poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 83.0/100. Pollution peaks around 1:00 PM (O3: 83.0/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Jincheng?

When is air pollution at its worst in Jincheng?

Air quality in Jincheng tends to be worse when traffic emissions as well as mining and quarrying operations build up and calm, stagnant conditions settle in the surrounding valley. Topographic enclosure in the valley lets pollution accumulate rather than clear out. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape.

Are air quality levels in Jincheng based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
