Jiaozuo's air quality reflects the flat North China Plain's northern Henan position at the Taihang Mountain piedmont, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the coal mining, aluminium, and chemical corridor generating elevated industrial PM2.5. The Taihang Mountains to the north create partial topographic enclosure, while winter anticyclonic inversions and the heavy industrial corridor maintain Jiaozuo among Henan's more persistently industrial coal and aluminium-influenced metropolitan environments throughout the winter months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Jiaozuo right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Jiaozuo is very poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 100/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 PM (O3: 100/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Jiaozuo?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Jiaozuo will be better than today, with PM1 forecast at fair at 37.5/100. Pollution peaks around 5:00 PM (O3: 55.7/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Jiaozuo?
Pollution in Jiaozuo typically rises when traffic on the surrounding roads, heavy industrial and chemical processing, as well as mining operations combine, especially once dry spells bring strong winds. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape. Residential heating through the colder months is a major seasonal source of particulates.
Are air quality levels in Jiaozuo based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
