Ji'an's air quality reflects the Jiangxi central Gan River valley's partial enclosure between the Luoxiao and Jinggangshan mountain ranges, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the tungsten mining, electronics, and manufacturing corridor contributing local sources. The surrounding mountain ranges create topographic variation, while winter coal heating under valley inversions generates elevated PM2.5 and the tungsten mining operations add distinctive mineral dust PM10 throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Ji’an right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Ji’an is fair. NO2 is the main pollutant at 39.7/100. Pollution peaks around 8:00 AM (SO2: 40.5/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Ji’an?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Ji’an will be similar to today, with O3 forecast at fair at 37.8/100. Pollution peaks around 9:00 PM (NO2: 46.0/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Ji’an?
The biggest local contributors to pollution in Ji’an are road traffic, mining operations, and manufacturing and food processing, particularly once calm, stagnant conditions settle in the surrounding valley. Topographic enclosure in the valley lets pollution accumulate rather than clear out. Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher.
Are air quality levels in Ji’an based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
