Huangshi's air quality reflects the Hubei eastern Yangtze River valley industrial position adjacent to Wuhan, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the copper mining, cement, and steel corridor generating elevated industrial PM2.5 and heavy metals. The Yangtze valley provides limited waterway ventilation, while winter anticyclonic inversions concentrate industrial and heating emissions and Huangshi generally maintains moderate to elevated Hubei eastern Yangtze industrial corridor readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Huangshi right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Huangshi is very poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 100/100. Pollution peaks around 4:00 PM (O3: 100/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Huangshi?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Huangshi will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at very poor at 100/100. Pollution peaks around 4:00 PM (O3: 100/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Huangshi?
Air quality in Huangshi tends to be worse when vehicle traffic, petrochemical and refining operations, together with mining operations build up and the surrounding valley traps air close to the ground. The bowl-like terrain here limits how quickly pollutants can escape. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape.
Are air quality levels in Huangshi based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
