Hanzhong's air quality reflects the Qinling-Daba Mountain corridor's Han River valley at 509 metres, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the aviation manufacturing, agricultural, and tourism corridor contributing local sources. The Qinling Mountains to the north and the Daba Mountains to the south create near-complete topographic enclosure, while winter inversions in the deeply enclosed Han River valley create seasonal concentration and Hanzhong maintains moderate to elevated Shaanxi southern mountain valley readings throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Hanzhong right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Hanzhong is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 70.6/100. Pollution peaks around 1:00 AM (NO2: 70.6/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Hanzhong?

When is air pollution at its worst in Hanzhong?
In Hanzhong, road traffic, aviation activity from the nearby airport, and textile and manufacturing operations are the main local sources, with conditions worsening when temperature inversions set in over the valley. Topographic enclosure in the valley lets pollution accumulate rather than clear out. This is most pronounced in winter, when inversions are more frequent.
Are air quality levels in Hanzhong based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
