Hanchuan's air quality reflects the flat Hubei Jianghan Plain's Han River valley position adjacent to the Wuhan metropolitan corridor, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the agricultural processing and light manufacturing contributing local sources. The Yangtze valley's flat plain concentrates emissions under winter inversions, while the broader Wuhan metropolitan industrial background influences the corridor and Hanchuan generally maintains moderate Hubei central corridor readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Hanchuan right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Hanchuan is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 65.9/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 PM (O3: 65.9/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Hanchuan?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Hanchuan will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at poor at 68.0/100. Pollution peaks around 1:00 PM (O3: 68.0/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Hanchuan?
In Hanchuan, road traffic, manufacturing and food processing, and farming and agricultural processing are the main local sources, with conditions worsening when the surrounding valley traps air close to the ground. Topographic enclosure in the valley lets pollution accumulate rather than clear out. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape.
Are air quality levels in Hanchuan based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
