Guangyuan's air quality reflects the Sichuan Basin's northern Jialing River valley entrance position between the Qinling foothills at 488 metres, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the agricultural, manufacturing, and reconstruction corridor contributing local sources. The Jialing valley's topographic enclosure creates concentration under inversions, while the northern corridor's lower industrial intensity compared to the Chengdu metropolitan core generally maintains moderate Sichuan northern gateway readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Guangyuan right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Guangyuan is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 70.1/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 AM (NO2: 70.1/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Guangyuan?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Guangyuan will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at poor at 66.3/100. Pollution peaks around 11:00 PM (NO2: 66.3/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Guangyuan?

Pollution in Guangyuan typically rises when traffic on the surrounding roads, manufacturing activity, together with ongoing construction work combine, especially once temperature inversions set in over the valley. The surrounding valley terrain holds pollutants near the surface rather than letting them disperse. Dust carried on these winds adds substantially to particulate levels.

Are air quality levels in Guangyuan based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
