Guang'an's air quality reflects the Sichuan Basin's eastern Qu River valley position, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the coal mining, chemical, and manufacturing corridor contributing local sources. The Sichuan Basin's topographic enclosure creates concentration under winter inversions, while the coal mining operations add distinctive coal dust PM10 and Guang'an generally maintains moderate Sichuan Basin eastern provincial readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Guang’an right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Guang’an is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 78.6/100. Pollution peaks around 1:00 PM (O3: 78.6/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Guang’an?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Guang’an will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at poor at 65.7/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 65.7/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Guang’an?
In Guang’an, vehicle traffic, heavy industry such as steel, cement, or petrochemical processing, together with mining and quarrying operations are the main local sources, with conditions worsening when temperature inversions set in over the valley. The surrounding valley terrain holds pollutants near the surface rather than letting them disperse. Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher.
Are air quality levels in Guang’an based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
