Worst air pollution Fushun, today and tomorrow

Today (16 July): Air quality in Fushun is fair. PM2.5 and PM1 are fair; AQI and O3 are medium; PM10, NO2, SO2, CO, and HCHO are good. Pollution peaks around 1:00 PM (O3: 41.4/100).
Tomorrow (17 July 2026): Air quality in Fushun is very poor. AQI worsens to very poor; O3 increases to very poor; all other pollutants stay as today. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 83.2/100). Airmine updates local air quality forecasts four times daily.

Fushun's air quality faces significant challenges from the Liaoning eastern Hun River valley's coal mining and petrochemical complex, with the Fushun Mining Group's open-cast coal mine — one of Asia's largest — generating elevated coal dust PM10 and industrial emissions alongside vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways. Winter residential coal heating extensively compounds mining and refinery industrial emissions under valley inversions, while the coal mining legacy makes Fushun one of Liaoning's most distinctively coal industry-defined urban air quality environments throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Fushun right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Fushun is fair. PM1 is the main pollutant at 26.5/100. Pollution peaks around 1:00 PM (O3: 41.4/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Fushun?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Fushun will be worse than today, with AQI forecast at very poor at 83.2/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 83.2/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Fushun?

Pollution in Fushun typically rises when traffic emissions, steel, cement, and chemical production, as well as mining operations combine, especially once temperature inversions set in over the valley. The surrounding valley terrain holds pollutants near the surface rather than letting them disperse. Dust carried on these winds adds substantially to particulate levels.

Are air quality levels in Fushun based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
