Chizhou's air quality reflects the flat Anhui Qiupu River valley's Yangtze River tributary position, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the cement, ecological tourism, and agricultural corridor contributing local sources. The Yangtze River provides limited waterway ventilation, while winter anticyclonic inversions concentrate heating and vehicle emissions and Chizhou generally maintains moderate Anhui southern Yangtze corridor readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Chizhou right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Chizhou is fair. PM1 is the main pollutant at 22.0/100. Pollution peaks around 11:00 PM (NO2: 50.9/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Chizhou?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Chizhou will be worse than today, with AQI forecast at poor at 60.1/100. Pollution peaks around 4:00 PM (O3: 60.1/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Chizhou?

Chizhou usually sees its poorest air quality when road traffic, heavy industrial and chemical processing, together with agricultural burning coincide with periods when calm, stagnant conditions settle in the surrounding valley. The bowl-like terrain here limits how quickly pollutants can escape. Coal and wood used for winter heating add substantially to particulate levels.

Are air quality levels in Chizhou based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
