Worst air pollution Benxi, today and tomorrow
Today (16 July): Air quality in Benxi is poor. AQI and O3 are poor; PM2.5, NO2, and HCHO are fair; PM1 is medium; PM10, SO2, and CO are good. Pollution peaks around 10:00 AM (O3: 65.3/100).
Tomorrow (17 July 2026): Air quality in Benxi is poor. PM2.5 decreases to good; NO2 decreases to good; PM1 increases to fair; all other pollutants stay as today. Pollution peaks around 2:00 PM (O3: 64.9/100). Airmine updates local air quality forecasts four times daily.

Benxi's air quality faces significant challenges from the Liaoning southeastern Taizi River valley's enclosed position, with the Benxi Steel complex — one of China's major steel bases — generating elevated industrial SO₂ and PM2.5 alongside vehicle traffic on surrounding roads. The valley's topographic enclosure concentrates steel industrial and heating emissions under frequent inversions, while the steel complex's industrial scale makes Benxi one of Liaoning's most distinctively steel manufacturing-defined urban air quality environments throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Benxi right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Benxi is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 65.3/100. Pollution peaks around 10:00 AM (O3: 65.3/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Benxi?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Benxi will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at poor at 64.9/100. Pollution peaks around 2:00 PM (O3: 64.9/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Benxi?
Benxi usually sees its poorest air quality when traffic emissions, steel, cement, and chemical production, and textile and manufacturing operations coincide with periods when the surrounding valley traps air close to the ground. The bowl-like terrain here limits how quickly pollutants can escape. Dust carried on these winds adds substantially to particulate levels.
Are air quality levels in Benxi based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
