Anshun's air quality reflects the Guizhou Plateau's karst limestone highland at 1,374 metres, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the military industrial, tourism, and agricultural corridor contributing local sources. The elevated karst plateau position aids dispersal on most days, while winter coal heating under karst valley inversions generates elevated PM2.5 and the surrounding Guizhou karst topography creates distinctive local wind channelling throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Anshun right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Anshun is fair. NO2 is the main pollutant at 28.1/100. Pollution peaks around 2:00 PM (O3: 40.7/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Anshun?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Anshun will be similar to today, with O3 forecast at fair at 37.4/100. Pollution peaks around 11:00 PM (SO2: 40.3/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Anshun?
Air quality in Anshun tends to be worse when traffic on the surrounding roads, aviation activity from the nearby airport, as well as farming and agricultural processing build up and the surrounding valley traps air close to the ground. Topographic enclosure in the valley lets pollution accumulate rather than clear out. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape.
Are air quality levels in Anshun based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
