Anshan's air quality reflects the Liaoning southern coastal industrial plain's position, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the Ansteel iron and steel complex — one of China's largest — generating elevated industrial SO₂, PM2.5, and heavy metals. The Yellow Sea maritime influence provides limited ventilation, while winter residential coal heating compounds industrial emissions and the steel complex's industrial scale makes Anshan Liaoning's most distinctively steel manufacturing-defined air quality environment throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Anshan right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Anshan is fair. PM2.5 is the main pollutant at 33.7/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 AM (NO2: 43.0/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Anshan?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Anshan will be worse than today, with AQI forecast at poor at 62.5/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 62.5/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Anshan?
In Anshan, traffic on the surrounding roads, heavy industry such as steel, cement, or petrochemical processing, along with light manufacturing are the main local sources, with conditions worsening when windblown dust events occur. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape. Sea breezes typically keep conditions in check, except during still weather.
Are air quality levels in Anshan based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
