Macul's air quality reflects the Santiago metropolitan area's eastern residential corridor at 600 metres adjacent to the Andean foothills, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the residential and university character contributing local sources under the Santiago basin's persistent temperature inversions. The enclosed Central Valley's topographic trapping compounds emissions, while the elevated foothills position provides marginally better dispersal and Macul generally maintains moderate Santiago metropolitan eastern residential readings throughout most of the year.
