La Calera's air quality reflects the Chilean Valparaíso Region's Aconcagua River valley position at 112 metres adjacent to the cement industry corridor, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the cement manufacturing, industrial, and services corridor generating elevated mineral dust PM10 alongside vehicle sources. The coastal Cordillera partially blocks Pacific maritime ventilation, while the valley's topographic enclosure creates concentration under winter inversions and La Calera generally maintains moderate to elevated Valparaíso Aconcagua valley industrial readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in La Calera right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in La Calera is good. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 12.3/100. Pollution peaks around 8:00 PM (O3: 12.3/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in La Calera?

When is air pollution at its worst in La Calera?
The biggest local contributors to pollution in La Calera are road traffic, heavy industry such as steel, cement, or petrochemical processing, together with textile and manufacturing operations, particularly once the surrounding valley traps air close to the ground. The bowl-like terrain here limits how quickly pollutants can escape. Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher.
Are air quality levels in La Calera based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
