Asenovgrad's air quality reflects the Maritsa upper valley in the Plovdiv foothills at 185 metres, with vehicle traffic on the E80 and surrounding wine, food processing, and light manufacturing contributing local sources. Winter residential wood and coal burning generates elevated PM2.5, while the Rhodope Mountains to the south create topographic variation and the flat Thracian plain to the north provides reasonable dispersal on northerly and westerly wind days throughout the year.
