Manama's air quality reflects the flat Bahrain island Arabian Gulf coastal position, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the financial, aluminium smelting, and construction corridor generating elevated industrial and vehicle emissions. Arabian Gulf sea breezes provide coastal ventilation, while windblown Arabian Desert dust generates elevated PM10 during shamal events and the Alba aluminium smelter's industrial scale represents Manama's most distinctive local industrial emission source throughout most of the year.
