Al Muḩarraq's air quality reflects the Bahrain northern island position adjacent to Bahrain International Airport, with the airport's concentrated aviation operations and vehicle traffic on surrounding roads generating elevated NOₓ alongside the surrounding traditional Muharraq pearl heritage and residential character. Arabian Gulf sea breezes provide coastal ventilation, while windblown Arabian Desert dust generates elevated PM10 during shamal events and the airport's aviation operations represent the most distinctive local emission source throughout the year.
